Anise hyssop is part of the mint family and is also known as liquorice mint.
The flowers and leaves of anise hyssop can both be used and have an aniseed/liquorice flavour. The tiny lavender-blue flowers work well sprinkled over fruit salad.
Native Americans were said to have used the herb as a medicine for coughs and colds and a tea made from the leaves aids digestion.
The leaves make a great addition to fresh salads.
